ASAP & BEDIDI cement-plug leak rectification
Genting Oil Kasuri Pte Ltd · ASAP & BEDIDI, West Papua · 2022
Problem & challenge
Temporarily abandoned wells suffered sustained casing pressure, with suspected microchannel leakage from an isolation plug or perforation-squeeze source. Maximum recorded pressure exceeded 1,000 psi in Sections C and D. The programme required rigless, small-footprint equipment for a remote location.
Objective
- Seal gas migration / pressure build-up at the surface cement plug using engineered epoxy resin.
- Place resin through macaroni tubing with density above the existing completion fluid.
Solution
Injectivity, pressure build-up and surface integrity tests, then a 1–2 bbl resin placement through macaroni tubing, squeezed at the leak area within MASP.
Result
Two barrels of resin plug were successfully injected via macaroni string and cured under surface pressure for 24 hours. No pressure build-up was recorded after treatment.
