Problem & challenge
A producing well had been shut in with multiple intervention and integrity issues and independent sustained casing pressure of approximately 1,000 psi. The suspected mechanism involved a washed-out casing shoe and micro-annulus channelling to surface, with a low MAWOP limiting squeeze pressure.
Objective
- Seal the micro-annulus by placing an adequate resin plug above top of cement.
- Squeeze resin using a placement method that minimised contamination.
Solution
Fluid-level, pressure-build-up and surface integrity diagnostics, then a heavy-density 12 ppg resin slurry through circulation, squeezed within MASP.
Result
Hyperseal injected 2.5 bbl of resin, equivalent to approximately 12 m of plug, and cured it under surface pressure for 24 hours. Post-treatment pressure build-up was reduced to a manageable level.
