Turn the fibre into thousands of sensing points.
Distributed fibre-optic sensing uses fibre installed along the well path to provide continuous distributed measurements rather than relying only on isolated point sensors.
How it works
A pulse of light travels along the fibre. Backscattered light provides a measurement point along the length — conceptually a sensor every metre. A 5,000 m fibre is illustrated in the corporate presentation as 5,000 temperature / acoustic sensing locations. Treat that as a conceptual visual unless a specific interrogator specification is approved.
Where it is applied
- Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) for dynamic well behaviour
- Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) along the completion and reservoir interval
- Isolation and flow-behind-pipe investigation
- Continuous or campaign-based well surveillance
Discuss an application
The correct technology depends on leak geometry, communication path, accessible volume, pressure conditions and deployment method.
