Problem and Challenges
An idle well, planned for gas lift deepening, experienced pressure buildup to the surface.
- The SCSSV (Surface-Controlled Subsurface Safety Valve) was retrieved, and MCX injection valve was installed below.
- Efforts to isolate the SCSSV by straddling across the nipple were unsuccessful.
- The objective was to isolate the control line (CL) mid-section without excess sealant plugging off the MCX injection valve.
Solution
- Conducted multiple System Integrity Tests (SIT) to evaluate the rectification methodology and calculations.
- Performed diagnostic tests, identifying a severe injectivity leak rate of 850 ml/min at 3500 psi and an immediate pressure buildup (PBU) rate of 300 psi within 30 seconds, confirming communication with the tubing head pressure (THP).
- Optimized precision volumetric deployment of proprietary Epoxy Resin, resin spacer, and displacement fluid to seal the CL leak in situ without excess volume.
- Applied surface lock pressure during the curing period.
Results
- The severe control line leak was successfully sealed with the epoxy resin.
- No further pressure buildup was observed at the surface during integrity test.
