Problem and Challenges
Gas seepage was detected in two conductors (A & B). The leak was located in the gap between the landing support ring and the base plate positioned above the 36” conductor.
The suspected cause was channelling from a downhole source.
Solution
- Conducted diagnostic tests to identify the presence, communication path, and severity of the leak in all casing hanger seal ports for each conductor.
- Applied a combination of sealant treatments using PAS and TAS.
- Installed Composite Repair to secure the gap, providing a secondary barrier to contain the leak.
Results
- All leaking casing hanger seal ports were successfully sealed using the applied sealant.
- No further gas seepage was observed at the section gap after wrapping, verified by a soapy test.
- Documented in SPE-202404-MS: A Novel and Comprehensive Approach to Fix Conductor and Casing Hanger Leaks.
